Report - Energy Transition: A multifaceted challenge for Europe 2015

Since 2012, Egmont – Royal Institute for International Relations and the Development Group have organised a series of events related to key issues of the Energy Transition towards a low-carbon economy in Europe under the name "Energy Transition - A multifaceted challenge for Europe".

We continued this series of events in 2015 with three Energy Symposia followed by a High-Level Energy Conference in Brussels. The 2015 events covered several topics which are crucial for the development of a resilient Energy Union with a forward-looking Climate Change Policy, as advocated in President Juncker's political guidelines for the new Commission.

A detailed report by Clémentine d'Oultremont can be found here.

As 2016 will be a year of many legislative proposals that aim to give shape to the European Energy Union, we will continue our Energy Transition series with several events. They will address constitutive aspects of the on-going construction of the Energy Union, for instance:

  • The potential for European innovation in the energy sector in the aftermath of the COP21,
  • The potential for energy efficiency in the building sector, and
  • The Commission’s upcoming proposal for a new European electricity market design.
